About this collection

This collection contains materials related to the historic town of New London, Virginia, established in 1754 as the first county seat of Bedford. A once-thriving frontier town New London played a significant role in colonial Virginia and the Revolutionary War. Today, the community is home to several historic properties, including what is believed to be the oldest standing structure ni the area, Mead's Tavern. Liberty University acquired Mead's Tavern in 2015 with plans for restoration. Since then, it has been a centerpiece for student research and community partnerships. Most of the material here is collected and processed by students in our Public History classes.
