FalwellFax Page 1 of 2 THE FALWELL FAX ONLINE A weekly fax-briefing exclusively for America's pastors and Christian leaders who may use this information without attribution. This fax is made available, without charge, to the 162,000 evangelical pastors who are part ofthe "Friends of Jerry Falwell Support Circle." Date: Friday, January 23,1998 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE From: Jerry Falwell OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE WOULD MEAN IMPEACHMENT: Did President Bill Clinton conduct an 18-month affair with a young White House intern named Monica Lewinsky? The president says no, but is alleged to have instructed Lewinsky, through confidant Vemon Jordan, to lie about the affair when she is deposed by Paula Jones' lawyers (scheduled for later today). Responding to the allegations, Clinton said on Wednesday, "There is no improper relationship." Well, what does that mean? Does it mean that the "improper" relationship is now over? Does it mean it was not "improper" because Miss Lewinsky was 21? Does it mean that our president has lost all perspective of "improper"? It's hard to tell what he meant. One man who certainly wants to know what he meant is Whitewater independent counsel Kenneth Starr who will question Lewinsky as early as next week. (I deeply suspect that another Clinton sexual conquest is far from what's on Starr's mind. Why else would the three-judge Whitewater panel and Clinton apologist Janet Reno allow him to enter this investigation? I expect much deeper issues are being investigated.) Starr has already subpoenaed White House logs on Lewinsky's apparent White House late-night meetings with Clinton that happened after she transferred to the Pentagon. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry Hyde (R-Ill.) has already said impeachment proceedings would be an option if Clinton did attempt to obstruct justice by lying under oath and instructing Lewinsl^ to lie. Meanwhile, Starr continues to conduct his painstaking Whitewater investigation. He has been in relentless pursuit of the truth and has secured several convictions of Clinton friends, even though the White House has been far from cooperative. Yesterday, Starr properly refused to comment on audio tapes (apparently about 20 hours worth) that allegedly connect Clinton to Lewinsky. The tapes, obtained furtively from a Lewinsky co-worker (Linda Tripp) through private and FBI-wired conversations, are said to offer graphic detail of the affair. Newsweek reported that the tapes, now in prosecutors' hands, reveal Lewinsky turning on the president, referring to him as and "the creep." Another source who heard the tapes told CNN that Lewinsky reported the president told her: "There is no evidence, so you can deny, deny, deny." Other rumors abound: Does Lewinsky have a semen sample belonging to Bill Clinton? Is there a written document compelling Tripp to also lie in testimony? These are questions that will soon be answered. In the meantime, pray for our nation, my friends! GENNIFER FLOWERS ALL OVER AGAIN? During the 1992 presidential campaign. Bill Clinton denied having a 12-year relationship with Gennifer Flowers, despite phone recordings clearly indicating an affair. (Remember, he called her "baby" quite frequently on the tapes. Hardly a phrase given to a casual acquaintance.) The Washington Post on Wednesday quoted unidentified sources familiar with Clinton's six-hour deposition in the Jones case who said the president did acknowledge that he had an affair with Flowers. Remember that the best-seller Blood Sport, written by a liberal Democrat and commissioned by the Clinton White House, also gave detailed accounts of Bill Clinton's sexual escapades. Can't anyone see a pattern developing here? CAUSE FOR NATIONAL MOURNING: It has now been 25 years since abortion was legalized in America. Today we live in the culture of abortion that has led to the butchering of 36 million babies in the last quarter century. Another 1.5 million babies will be slaughtered this year. Former abortion doctor Carol Everett says that greedy doctors sometimes perform lO-to-12 abortions an hour. This is a national shame! Yesterday morning, on the 25th armiversary of the fateful Roe V. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion, we spread 1.5 million paper roses across the grounds in front of the Tomb of the Unborn near our Liberty Godparent Home. We did this to honor the 1.5 million precious babies who die each year under an abortionist's knife. During an early-morning memorial service for these irmocent victims, my heart ached as I looked out over that field of little flowers. It was such a moving service. Many in attendance wept as Liberty University music professor Steven Kerr played "Taps" on his trumpet. And yet there was cause for some celebration yesterday. As I turned to look behind me, there stood our Liberty Godparent Home ~ our haven for young girls who choose life over abortion for their babies. I wish we could save all 1.5 million little lives this year. But we cannot. We will however do our part by continuing to minister to these girls and provide their babies with godly parents. May we all continue to strive for the day when America halts this legal national holocaust. POLITICAL IRONY OR A MESSAGE FROM HEAVEN? As president, Bill Clinton vetoed (not once, but twice) a congressional ban on partial-birth abortion - the procedure that permits doctors to withdraw a baby's head and suction out its brains. While the American Medical Association announced its opposition to the procedure, Clinton yielded to the wishes of the raging "pro-choice" lobby and allowed this horrifying procedure to continue. And now, on the 25th annivers^ of Roe v. Wade, it appears the president's political life may be in ruins. Some may say this is political irony, but I can t help but believe that almighty God has said, "Enough is enough." It is, indeed, a terrible thing to fall into the hands of an angry God.
